Cast off, sit back and get ready for the catch of the day. Nothing is quite as rewarding as spending some quiet time fishing. Africa Wild Safaris is proud to offer a range of distinctly African fishing locations. Just let us know what excites you hook, line and sinker and we will arrange a special fishing break for you.
Deep Sea Fishing
We operate two exquisite fishing locations used regularly in South Africa but there are a large number of equally enchanting fishing spots throughout the country. Should you wish to know more about these please feel free to contact us.
For deep sea fishing trips we use St Lucia as a base. The area is semi-tropical with lovely weather and the setting offers great views of the pure beauty the North Coast of Kwazulu Natal. The most well known fish species that you will encounter on your St Lucia trip are: Pike, Dorado's, Sailfish, Tuna, Red Roman, King, Marlin, Slinger, Soldier, Rock Cod, Queen Mackerel, Cuda
Gansbaai in the Western Cape is another quiet fishing town that is popular amongst our keen fisherman. You can expect to find the following fish in Gansbaai: Red Roman; Red Stump; Hottentots; Kabeljou (similar to Cob); Gelbeck (also known as Cape Salmon - but tastes nothing like Salmon!); Yellow Tail (variety in the area are Small Yellow fin Tuna) and Snoek. Your hosts at Gansbaai also offer Crayfish catching trips in season – you will need to obtain a crayfish license for this, which is easily obtainable from our Post office.
The Elephant Lake Hotel in St Lucia is a place where you will be treated like royalty. Set on the magnificent North Coast of Kwazulu Natal, it offers spectacular views of the unspoilt coast. There are a number of options available to you with regards to rooms, suites and pricing. Please contact us in the regard.
Saxon Lodge is a haven of relaxation. It overlooks a traditional fishing harbour and a wonderful hiking trail from the harbour along the rocky coastline. Set in the sleepy little village of Gansbaai, Saxon Lodge provides a sanctuary after a long day of fishing. There are a number of options available to you with regards to rooms, suites and pricing. Please contact us in the regard.
BOATS AND FISHING GEAR
Your skipper, Johan Potgieter, makes use of his expertise and local knowledge to get you to the best fishing areas. His 25 foot boat can take up to 8 people and the price of his trips includes all bait and fishing tackle, fuel, licenses and skipper fees.
You will fish off a Cat hull boat - 6.7 metres long, 2.7 metre beam. It is an open deck boat with porta-potty and full life support and medical first aid. This vessel is a registered commercial boat. You will be provided with everything needed for a day's fishing onboard, including a packed lunch and refreshments. There are also sunset cruises on offer with complimentary sparkling wine, beer, cold drinks and snacks.
Never again let your fishing friends regale you with “it was this big” stories, our local taxidermists can make a trophy of the biggest fish you catch so that you can take it home for posterity. We recommend the use of Taxidermist who will create a lasting memory of your most impressive catch.
